Dear Architects is a newsletter published by 50 Cents Media Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 15968306. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" refer to 50 Cents Media Ltd. We are the data controller for the personal information described here, which means we decide how and why it is used.

When you subscribe to Dear Architects, we ask for one thing: your email address. We do not ask for your name, your employer, your job title, or anything else. You can subscribe through the sign-up form on our landing page or through the pop-up that appears on some of our pages.
Once you are subscribed, our email platform automatically records a small amount of information about how you interact with the emails we send. This includes whether you opened a given issue, which links you clicked, and an approximate location derived from your IP address at the moment you opened the email. That approximate location is usually no more precise than a city or region. We use this to understand which topics land well and to keep our subscriber list healthy by identifying addresses that have gone inactive.
We do not buy subscriber lists, and nobody is ever added to Dear Architects without asking to be.
We rely on your consent as our lawful basis for sending you the newsletter and for the engagement tracking described above. You gave that consent when you subscribed, and you can take it back whenever you like by using the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any issue. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.
Dear Architects carries sponsorship, and sponsors receive a performance report after their placement runs. That report contains aggregate statistics only: the open rate for the issue, the click-through rate, and the total number of clicks their advertisement received. Sponsors never receive your email address, and they never receive any information that would let them work out whether you personally opened an issue or clicked a link. We do not sell, rent, or otherwise share our subscriber list, and we have no intention of starting.
We use MailerLite to store our subscriber list and to send and measure our emails. MailerLite acts as our data processor, which means they handle your information on our instructions and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes. MailerLite hosts our sign-up forms and landing page as well, so the information you enter goes to them directly. Their own privacy notice explains how they operate as a business.
MailerLite may process and store data outside the United Kingdom. Where that happens, the transfer is covered by the safeguards required under UK and EU data protection law, including standard contractual clauses and, where applicable, the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
Beyond MailerLite, we may disclose personal information if the law requires it of us, or if we need to establish or defend a legal claim.
We keep your email address and your engagement history for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, MailerLite retains a record of your address on a suppression list so that we do not accidentally email you again. If you would prefer to be erased entirely rather than suppressed, tell us and we will delete the record, though this means we could no longer recognise you if you were added again in future.
Subscribers who have not opened an issue for twenty-four months are removed during routine list maintenance.
Under UK and EU data protection law you have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected if it is wrong, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. Where our use rests on your consent, you also have the right to withdraw that consent at any time.
Write to info@50cents.media and we will respond within one month. There is no charge for this.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. If you are in the EEA, you may instead complain to the supervisory authority in your country. We would rather you came to us first so we have a chance to put things right, but you are not obliged to.
Our sign-up pages are hosted by MailerLite, which sets cookies necessary for the form to work and to remember whether you have already seen or dismissed the subscription pop-up. We do not run advertising cookies and we do not use Google Analytics or any similar third-party analytics service on these pages.
If we change how we handle your information in a way that materially affects you, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Where the change is significant, we will tell you by email rather than expecting you to notice on your own.
